Yoel Romero will not be allowed to win the interim UFC middleweight title Saturday night, as the former Olympic silver medalist missed weight.

More from Fightline

Romero attempted twice to weigh-in successful, coming in a second time at 187.7 pounds. He needed to be right at 185 or under for his bout with Luke Rockhold to be official for UFC 221’s main event Saturday in Perth, Western Australia.

Rockhold, a former champion, will be eligible to win the interim title if he scores the victory over Romero from inside the Perth Arena live on pay-per-view.

Prelim fighter Jussier Formiga also missed weight on his first attempt, but was able to drop the necessary quarter-pound to make his fight official with Ben Nguyen on the FOX Sports 1 broadcast.
