Marred by injuries and lost bouts, UFC Fight Night 137 went down this past weekend from Sao Paulo, Brazil, as Thiago Santos stopped Eryk Anders in the main event.
Neither Santos or Anders were originally tabbed for the card, as they replaced Jimi Manuwa and Glover Teixeira through a series of changes.
The decision by Santos to remain on the docket was a smart one, as any win in a main event – especially a finish – will only make you more important in the eyes of the UFC brass. The 34-year-old scored his second consecutive win and is now 6-1 over his last seven fights.
Where does it place Santos in the middleweight division? Since the bout took place at 205 pounds, he doesn’t necessarily move up all that much in the rankings, but Anders is a solid light heavyweight, so it is nothing to ignore.
With the impact Santos put on Anders, it is possible that he thinks more and more about a move up to the division. He obviously has power to compete with the bigger fighters, and maybe at his age, not cutting weight would be a smart move.
