Yushin Okami stepped up on short notice to fight Ovince St. Preux tonight (Fri., Sept. 22, 2017) at UFC Fight Night 117 inside Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, which aired live on FXX (not FOX Sports 1).

Okami was making his UFC re-entry after four years absent, up a weight class. This was always a tough ask, but it proved even more one-sided than expected.

Okami immediately shot with no setup. OSP stuffed it, and Okami tried to pull half-guard. He lifted OSP with his legs, attempting to sweep him. OSP tied up his head in a guillotine, looking to step into mount. He gave it up and went back to half guard. Okami made the mistake of trying to tie up OSP’s head, and OSP looked for his patented Von Preux choke. Sure enough, he put Okami to sleep!! Three of five UFC Von Flue chokes on record are now by St. Preux- that’s two in a row for the former title challenger.

Great win for OSP, who was on a tough run but is now sitting on a two-fight win streak. He talked a lot about being “in the flow zone” before the bout, and while he was expected to win, the fact he did so with his signature win makes it memorable.

Official result: Ovince St. Preux def. Yushin Okami by submission (Von Flue choke) at 1:50 of round one
