Amanda Nunes will defend her female bantamweight title in the main event of UFC 224 next month against Raquel Pennington.

More from Fightline

The event takes place May 12 from the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Nunes was rumored for a champion vs. champion match with Cris Cyborg at the event at one time, but that never came to fruition. She is on a six-fight win streak that includes victories over Valentina Shevchenko, Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate.

Pennington earned her title shot after scoring a 2016 decision vs. Tate. After plans were in the early stages for her to challenge Nunes, the former Ultimate Fighter competitor was injured and forced to wait on the sidelines.

Along with Nunes-Pennington, the card also features Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza vs. Kelvin Gastelum in a key middleweight bout, Mackenzie Dern vs. Amanda Cooper and Vitor Belfort vs. Lyoto Machida.

The prelims will stream live on UFC Fight Pass and FX instead of FOX Sports 1.
