Yoel Romero believes 100 percent in his abilities.

This Saturday night, the “Soldier of God” will take on Luke Rockhold in the main event of UFC 221 for the interim middleweight title. The bout airs live on pay-per-view from the Perth Arena in Perth, Western Australia.

“I’m very happy because God gave me this opportunity,” he said. “I feel very blessed. Thank you, God.”

A silver medalist at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney in wrestling, Romero is 12-2 in his career. One of those losses came to current division champion Robert Whittaker last year for the interim title via decision.

“I know this is the way,” he said. “Luke, when I see him, I see one human. No superhero. Superman. Nothing. Everybody knows that all my fights are with top guys. So you see every time that I fight, I fight with people who have more experience than me. I’m like a baby. But it doesn’t matter.”

Romero has earned wins over the likes of former UFC champions Chris Weidman and Lyoto Machida, ex-Strikeforce titleholder Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, Tim Kennedy and Derek Brunson. His only other career loss was in his fifth pro fight to Rafael Cavalcante in 2011.

“I’m training everyday. I’m focused. God blessed me,” Romero said. “Okay God, you stay with me, I’ll fight everybody. I won’t lose my focus. The focus is the gold. The focus is the belt. The focus is the victory. That’s my only focus. That’s what I see. I’ll get the victory this Saturday.”
