Before Tony Ferguson steps into the Octagon to face Kevin Lee for the interim Lightweight title in the main event of UFC 216 on Oct. 7, 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada, let’s take a trip down memory lane to see “El Cucuy’s” most dominant wins.
Back in 2014, Ferguson was riding high with a three-fight win streak as he stepped in to face the always-game Abel Trujillo at UFC 181. At the time, Trujillo was known as one of the toughest outs in the division, winning two straight before facing Ferguson.
It wasn’t close one the opening bell rang.
Tony showed an all-around arsenal that proved to be a tough puzzle for “Kill” to solve. Still, Trujillo manages to score some takedowns, but spent the majority of the time fighting off submission attempts. In round two, though, Trujillo found himself with Ferguson on his back.
From there, it was game over, as “El Cucuy” sunk in an air-tight rear-naked choke that forced Trujillo to tap for dear life. Since then, Ferguson added another five straight wins, taking his win streak to nine straight.
Now, he’ll get the chance to secure his first UFC title and perhaps a big money fight against Conor McGregor.
