Tony Ferguson is just itching to get back inside the Octagon and square off with Khabib Nurmagomedov.
After having his planned bout with Nurmagomedov at UFC 223 scrapped, due to a knee injury that required surgery, Ferguson made it to the red carpet of the UFC Hall of Fame ceremony recently to talk about his return.
Nurmagomedov went on to defeat Al Iaquinta that night and become the UFC lightweight champion.
“I was not impressed by Khabib’s performance,” Ferguson said in an interview with Helen Yee. “Obviously his conditioning was in check a little bit. Al Iaquinta, he did what he had to do and he was an Ultimate Fighter, he went all five rounds.
“It was exactly what I expected was gonna happen. (Nurmagomedov) got exposed.”
Ferguson admitted that he hasn’t heard anything in regards to a possible bout with Nurmagomedov when he returns, but is targeting September.
“I’m about 90 percent,” he said. “I want to get back in there.”
