UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker and Kelvin Gastelum will square off before the end of 2018. And they’ll also coach opposite one another on The Ultimate Fighter 28.
The announcement was made during Friday night’s broadcast of The Ultimate Fighter 27 Finale.
Whittaker and Gastelum are both former winners of the reality series. The exact date for the match between Whittaker and Gastelum has yet to be decided.
“This is crazy,” Gastelum said during the broadcast (thanks to MMAjunkie for the quotes). “This is what we’ve been working for for a long time, and I’m not going to let it slip by. This is a huge opportunity for me, my first title shot. My first belt of many. And I think it’s going to be a great season. Me and Robert have a lot to offer this sport.”
Gastelum (15-3) has won 10 fights inside the Octagon, including recent wins over Michael Bisping and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza. Whittaker (20-4) is 11-2 with the UFC and coming off a victory over top contender Yoel Romero.
