Barnett, who three months ago was exonerated by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency for a failed drug test, voiced his displeasure with the handling of his incident and the time lost for him as an active fighter.

In 2016, Barnett bested Andrei Arlovski in a meeting of former UFC champions at UFC Fight Night 93. That was his last appearance for the promotion.

Barnett tested positive for ostarine, which is banned year-round. However, he was viewed as a victim of a tainted substance by the USADA after a hearing, which kept him from receiving a four-year suspension.

He has gone 3-2 since returning to the UFC in 2013, earning wins over Arlovski, Roy Nelson and Frank Mir. Overall, Barnett is 35-8 in his career.
