According to ONE CEO Chatri Sityodtong, the 21 year old champ fell asleep at the wheel.
ONE atomweight champ Angela Lee had a brush with death in Hawaii earlier this week when she fell asleep at the wheel of her car and flipped it multiple times. Fortunately, ONE CEO Chatri Sityodtong reports that she only suffered minor injuries. While she’s out of a November 24th title fight, she’s expected to make a full recovery.

Here’s Sityodtong’s full post on the situation:
“ONE Atomweight World Champion Angela Lee got into a terrible car accident yesterday with her car flipping over 5-6x according to the police,” he wrote. “She was driving to her morning training at the gym when she fell asleep. Miraculously, she survived with only a concussion, some minor burns, and a banged up body. If she was not wearing a seatbelt, it would have most certainly been a different story. I saw photos of the damaged car, and it was a complete wreck.”
“Angela will not be competing on November 24. We are all blessed and relieved that Angela is expected to make a full recovery. It is a reminder for all of us that life is so fragile and that we must treasure our loved ones every day. Please join me in sending love, prayers, and positive energy to Angela and her family.”
Lee is 8-0 in her MMA career and has held the ONE atomweight championship since she took it off Mei Yamaguchi in 2016. She has since defended it twice and is considered a rising star of the promotion. We wish her all the best in her recovery.
