Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

This certainly fits the “weird and wild” promise I make to my readers.

Diego Brandao is both of those things, and never more so than today. In the main event of, FNG 73 in Kaspiysk, Dagestan, he bit the ear of his opponent Akhmet Aliev, got headbutted, illegally upkicked Aliev when the referee separated them, decided he was done with the whole thing as fans threw bottles and trash into the cage, jumped the fence, and got called back in and was judged to have lost the fight by technical knockout. In the meantime, a brawl broke out in the crowd. Just another fight night in Dagestan.

Shouts to combat sports superfan Grabaka Hitman for pointing out the ear-bite. Reminds me a little bit of that of Tyson-Holyfield craziness.

Sambo allows headbutts, it seems.

In the co-main event, another Brazilian UFC veteran, Fabio Maldonado, won his fight with this choke.

Insomnia

Ronda Rousey cut this cringe-worth promo in a parking lot

So true.

On that note…

I winced at that bill.

Ben Askren retired this weekend- after he fights Shinya Aoki November 24th in Singapore. He may have been denied entry into the UFC, but he was one of the best welterweights ever to do it, and he got paid for it.

This is never going to get old to me.

I’ll believe this unsubstantiated rumor when it is substantiated, but it is crazy enough to include. This fight is more likely, though.

Canelo is looking bigger ahead of his fight with Gennady Golovkin

Looking sharp at that weight, too. He’ll need all the power he’s got against Gennady Golovkin.

Daniel Cormier doesn’t regret taking time off. He knows what’s important in life: family.

Doo Ho Choi doing a fitness competition in South Korea

At least Stefan Struve got himself a Fight of the Night bonus in his hometown loss Saturday.

The irony

Lots of spinning back kicks to the body, I imagine.

Ric Flair is okay

The Volkan “No Time” Oezdemir jokes were great this weekend

Mairbek Taisumov got himself on a list this weekend with this great knockout

Michel Prazeres is on that list too

This does remind me of a katana video, actually.

I got on a bit of a Katana video binge

Palhares fought in Russia this weekend too and the last round was wild

Zabit Magomedsharipov may be an entirely made up name, but his ability in the cage is sublime

The old Fry/Takayama hockey punches sequence, re-enacted.

That one got the Ozzy Man treatment:
