Max Holloway will get his wish, as the reigning UFC featherweight champion has been added to UFC 226.

Holloway is set to defend his belt against the top contender in Brian Ortega on July 7 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The bout, which takes place during International Fight Week, is expected to serve as the co-main event to heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic vs. light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier.

Holloway (19-3) successfully defended the title last December with a third round TKO victory over Jose Aldo. It was the second time in a matter of months that the 26-year-old Hawaiian stopped Aldo, a former champion.

A few weeks ago, “Blessed” agreed to step in on short notice and face Khabib Nurmagomedov for the vacant lightweight title, replacing Tony Ferguson. Commission officials, though, ruled Holloway could no longer cut weight and he was forced out of the bout.

Ortega (14-0) became the first fighter to stop Frankie Edgar via strikes when he defeated him in March. Ortega actually replaced Holloway in that bout after the champion suffered an injury.

“T-City” is on a finish streak that includes wins over Edgar, Cub Swanson, Clay Guida and Diego Brandao. The former Resurrection Fighting Alliance champion has earned three “Fight of the Night” bonuses, two “Performance of the Night” bonuses and has submitted seven of his opponents.
