Nick Newell made a triumphant return to MMA Friday night, submitting Sonny Luque in the main event of Legacy Fighting Alliance 35.

The main card aired live on AXS TV from Houston.

Newell, a former XFC champion, retired following a 2015 victory over Tom Marcellino while competing for the World Series of Fighting. The win improved his record to 14-1 overall, with the lone setback coming to Justin Gaethje in 2014.

Gaethje took note of the returning Newell, offering up his congratulations via Twitter:

Newell, who was born with congenital amputation of his left arm, took the microphone after the win and stated he plans to compete in the UFC.

The card also featured a decision victory by Vernon Lewis over Jared Vandera, Jason Langellier submitting Thomas Webb and Charles Cheeks III downing Rivaldo Junior.
