Following a first round finish of Michael Bisping at UFC Fight Night 122, Kelvin Gastelum decided now was the time to request a fight with the champion.
Gastelum offered up his services for an upcoming UFC event in Australia with interim middleweight champion Robert Whittaker.
“I feel like Robert Whittaker and I should be next,” Gastelum said. “We’re two young guys, we haven’t even hit our prime yet.
“I just beat the guy who was the guy, so I feel I should be next.”
Gastelum stopped Bisping in the first round, three weeks after “The Count” dropped the UFC middleweight title to Georges St-Pierre.
“I’m up for the challenge (vs. Whittaker),” Gastelum said. “I trained for this and I expected it. I’m confident in my abilities.”
