Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion Jon Jones flunked his UFC 214 pre-fight drug test, which cast a long shadow over his knockout win over Daniel Cormier last month in Anaheim, California.
Watch the finish again here.
Following the news, which turned the division upside down, those closest to Jones cried foul, suggesting that a tainted supplement may be to blame, while others are calling bullshit and insist it was a set up.
“Jon Jones, with this, becomes the number one fuck up of all time, for sure, if he wasn’t already. This is the biggest one ever. We can only hope and pray that somehow or another there’s some mistake. Here’s the thing, we don’t know what was really going on now [with Jones]. Now I think we are allowed to have complete, open speculation with zero concern for being respectful. After the dick pill thing you gotta go, ‘Look man, the dude was partying, he was taking some dick pills.’ Coke, I don’t give a fuck about coke. That’s not helping you. Then you hear about this and you go, ‘Wait a minute, what is this?’ I want to know what this is.”
Their next post-fight interview should be interesting after those comments.
Jones recently broke his silence on Twitter (read it), but sidestepped any talk about his run-in with United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). “Bones” will have to sit tight while his B-sample is tested, then wait for his formal hearing.
A road we’ve already been down (thanks to this).
Unfortunately, the 205-pound division can’t move on until “Bones” gets his issues sorted out, which former champion Daniel Cormier, as well as top contenders like Alexander Gustafsson, are stuck in a holding pattern.
