Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight contender Gegard Mousasi is on his way over to Bellator MMA after failing to come to terms on a new deal with the world’s largest mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion.
But don’t expect him to get an immediate middleweight title shot.
“I don’t think it’s right to have Mousasi fighting for the title right away,” Bellator’s 185-pound kingpin Rafael Carvalho told MMA Fighting. “He should fight once or twice to prove he deserves this chance. It would be disrespectful to other fights who are competing for their opportunities in the division. If Bellator did that, it would be the same thing the UFC does to other fighters, and that’s not nice.”
This guy didn’t get one either.
Carvalho will instead put his title on the line against another UFC import when veteran striker Alessio Sakara takes center stage on Spike TV on Sat., Dec. 9, 2017, in his backyard of Florence, Italy.
It will be interesting to see how “The Dreamcatcher” is paired off in the interim.
