Former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar sees Yair Rodriguez as the future of the featherweight division.

But that future did not start at UFC 211.

Edgar destroyed Rodriguez, earning a stoppage by the Octagon-side doctor after the second round. For “The Answer,” the win was about making sure nobody forgets about him yet.

The UFC featherweight division will crown an undisputed champion next month when Jose Aldo and Max Holloway meet to unify the belts. Edgar will be a watchful viewer on that night.

“I want the winner of Aldo-Holloway,” Edgar said.

Edgar also dedicated the win to his friend and training partner, Nick Catone, who’s infant son passed away last week.

Despite having little trouble with Rodriguez, Edgar was complimentary of the fallen fighter afterwards.

“Yair is going to be a superstar,” Edgar said. “Just not yet.”
