Demian Maia didn’t have to accept a fight with the dangerous Jorge Masvidal.
But he did.
Maia, a former middleweight title contender, put his ranking on the line at UFC 211 this past weekend and left with a victory over Masvidal.
“He was so tough,” Maia said. “I didn’t expect it. I was able to control the distance and get him down.”
Maia, talking with FOX Sports 1 while current UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley worked the desk, asked for his opportunity to challenge Woodley.
“I hope you give me the chance next,” he said.
Woodley repsonded, saying “As we say at Roufusport, ‘they think they want us, but they don’t.'”
