Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier may end up getting the 205-pound strap from Jon Jones, yet again, despite losing to him in a championship title fight, yet again.
That’s because “Bones” flunked his UFC 214 pre-fight drug test and may find himself suspended from mixed martial arts (MMA) for the next few years, but unlike this guy, don’t expect “DC” to start handing down any sort of moral judgment just yet.
From his conversation with UFC Tonight:
“A lot of things are said before the fight, due to emotions and conversations you have. But I’ve got to be careful, this guy is entitled to due process. We can’t say he’s guilty before he’s gone through the process. I think he was trying to do the right thing, especially after the fight. But this was really bad. You don’t have that type of oversight. Especially with our first fight. This sucks we’re going through this over and over again.”
Cormier was finished by Jones via third-round technical knockout (watch it).
As with any positive drug test, United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) will test the athlete’s B-sample prior to conducting a formal hearing, which should give “Bones” enough time to prove he was victimized by a tainted supplement or “set up” by some dastardly do-badder.
Until then, the division remains on hold, yet again.
