The former heavyweight champion was pretty blunt in his assessment of Jon Jones’ current situation.

Former heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez is still sitting on the sidelines with the vague possibility of a return to the cage in 2018. But in a recent interview conducted in South Korea, it sounded like he was starting to get fired up over future potential division member Jon Jones and his latest batch of steroid problems.

“It all comes down to people being dirty,” Velasquez said. “Like our gym, me, Daniel. We don’t need extra substances to make us better. We do it by working hard. We’ve done this since we were kids. We learned how to train, and train right, and go out there and be competitive. So, if you bring steroids or just some kind of performance-enhancing drug into it? if it’s not allowed, it’s not allowed. We want everybody to be on the same page, so for him to do that, for Jon Jones to do that, that’s bulls**t. That’s f**king bulls**t. Why?

“Did you not want to lose to Daniel? Is that what it was? Why? We want everybody on the same playing field. When we go out there, we want it to be even as far as that goes, and having it come down to training, preparation, and being able to fight. The guy that goes out there and shines on that day is the guy who’s going to win, and it’s generally from working hard and being prepared — and not from anything else.”

With Jones vs. Lesnar looking less and less likely following Jon’s second drug test failure in as many years, it’s possible that Velasquez and Jones could end up throwing down at some point after the stripped light heavyweight champion serves all his suspensions. That would require Cain to get healthy and stay healthy through a hard training camp, though … something that’s not all that certain these days. Velasquez only has two fights since 2013, which is half as many as Jones even taking into account all of Jon’s regulatory issues.
