Michael Chandler impressed in his home state of Missouri Saturday night, finishing Brandon Girtz in the main event of Bellator 197.

The main card aired live on Paramount Network from the St. Charles Family Arena in Missouri.

Chandler, a former University of Missouri wrestling standout, locked in an arm-triangle choke in the first round, leaving Girtz unconscious on the cage canvas.

The win moved Chandler, a former Bellator lightweight champion, to 18-4 overall and 15-4 with the promotion. He was already the No. 1 contender to Brent Primus’ title, which Primus won last year from Chandler.

Chandler set a new record for the most wins in Bellator at 15. Girtz is now 15-8 overall and 7-6 with the promotion, as it appeared he also suffered a shoulder injury during the action.

In the co-main event, A.J. McKee remained unbeaten in his MMA career, picking up a decision over Justin Lawrence. The 23-year-old has made all 11 of his pro appearances with Bellator, earning 11 wins since 2015.
