BELLATOR 187 PLAY-BY-PLAY:
A.J. McKee vs. Brian Moore
Paul Redmond vs. Sergio da Silva Jesus
Charlie Ward vs. John Redmond
Ward is 3-3, Redmond is 7-12, and this is a 185 lb. fight. Blue gloves for Redmond, fighting out of Dublin, Ireland. Red gloves for Ward, also fighting out of Dublin. Our referee in charge for this contest is Marc Goddard.
Round 1: A tap of gloves kicks things off. Ward takes the center and pushes Redmond into the fence. He drives knees into the body and then hits the takedown. Redmond tries to tie up the arms and sit up against the fence. Ward puts his head on Redmond’s chin and then postures up looking to land hands to the head. Two minutes have elapsed. Redmond gets back to his feet at 2:04. Ward continues push against Redmond on the fence and they turn each other around jockeying for position. Ward is landing good knees to the body as they each struggle for dominance on the cage. Goddard encourages them to get busy and “do more” at 3:40. Ward uncorks a massive shot at the end of the round and REDMOND IS DONE. Suddenly CONOR MCGREGOR IS IN THE CAGE and officials trying to keep him away from the referee. McGregor should be happy though — his teammate was the winner of the fight. Perhaps this is why.
Final result: Charlie Ward wins via knockout at 4:59 of the first round.
Kevin Ferguson Jr. vs. Fred Freeman
Ferguson a/k/a “Baby Slice” is 1-1 and Freeman is 1-0. This bout is a catchweight of 165 lbs. — Ferguson was 165 and Freeman 160 for this fight. Freeman has solid navy trunks and blue gloves. Ferguson sports the black trunks and red gloves. Freeman fights out of St. Louis, Missouri and Ferguson fights out of Long Beach, California. Our referee is Marc Goddard.
Round 1: Freeman and Ferguson meet in the center and start to feel out the range. Freeman is a little more fleet of feet as he circles around and throws a body kick. Ferguson rushes forward looking for a leg trip, doesn’t get it, then throws him to the ground at 1:02. Ferguson takes the back when Freeman turns and quickly sinks in the rear naked choke for his first career sub.
Final result: Kevin Ferguson wins via submission (rear naked choke) at 1:57 of round one.
