Alexander Volkanovski is unbeaten in his UFC career, and now he wants to take on a top contender in the UFC.
The 29-year-old scored a victory over Darren Elkins at UFC Fight Night 133 Saturday via decision, pushing his overall record to 18-1.
Volkanovski revealed following the fight that he had to deal with an injury suffered just a few days ago.
“I injured my rib on Wednesday and that really forced me to be more patient,” Volkanovski said (thanks to Heidi Fang for the quotes). “He’s a very tough guy, I hit him with all I could but, as I said, my rib was giving me a lot of problems so that effected the fight. I’m 5-0 in the UFC; I want someone in the Top-5 next.”
Since signing with the promotion in 2016, Volkanovski has picked up wins vs. Jeremy Kennedy, Shane Young, Mizuto Hirota and Yusuke Kasuya. This, though, was the biggest one to date.
Elkins, fighting for the 30th time in his career, entered on a six-fight win streak that includes victories vs. Michael Johnson, Dennis Bermudez and Mirsad Bektic.
