Former UFC contender Yushin Okami’s World Series of Fighting debut will come against Svetlozar Savov at WSOF 9, officials announced recently.
Okami (29-8) was released by the UFC after a loss to Ronaldo Souza ended a three-fight win streak. In 2011, he fought then-UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva for the belt, falling by TKO.
Savov is 12-4 in his MMA career, including 11 finishes. The bout will be part of the NBC Sports Network main card.
“I was already excited for World Series of Fighting 9, but the addition of Yushin Okami against Svetlozar Savov to our live NBCSN broadcast leaves no question that this is the best card we’ve ever put together,” World Series of Fighting president Ray Sefo said. “This card now has some of the world’s most established talent, as well as some of the top up-and-coming names in the sport. This truly is a card you do not want to miss.”
Strickland (13-0) will be making his Octagon debut. Troeng suffered a shoulder injury in training, forcing his exit.
McDaniel (21-7) has split his two UFC bouts since appearing on The Ultimate Fighter alongside Troeng.
Hallman (14-2) is also 1-1 in two Octagon appearances, while Edwards (42-21-1) is 10-8 with the promotion. Edwards is currently in his third stint with the UFC.
