Former No. 1 contender Yushin Okami was released from his UFC contract on Friday.
UFC president Dana White confirmed the decision on Twitter, posting “our roster is packed. You will see people get cut and come back. Always been that way” in a pair of responses to people questioning the decision.
Okami (29-8) went 13-5 during his UFC tenure, including a match with then-UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva. Most recently, “Thunder” was defeated by Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, but had won three straight before that.
