He didn’t get his 11th submission victory in 11 tries, but Yan Cabral did scored his first UFC victory Wednesday night at UFC Fight Night 29.
Cabral picked David Mitchell apart, nearly securing several submissions through the 15-minute affair.
“David Mitchell is great on the ground, so I worked a lot on my boxing,” said Cabral, a training partner of Renan Barao, the interim UFC bantamweight champion. “I am very happy. Only I know what I’ve been through to get here.”
Cabral (11-0) hasn’t found since 2011, when he defeated the legendary Sakuraba. He was cast for The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 2.
For Mitchell, the loss likely ends his UFC run. He has gone just 1-5 in six bouts, including three straight defeats.
