Elvis Mutapcic and Jesse Taylor were unable to fight at World Series of Fighting (WSOF) 5, but the promotion has decided to pay both men their purse. WSOF executive vice president Ali Abdel-Aziz confirmed the news.
“We’re dealing with this matter internally, but the team decided it was only fair to pay both fighters,” said Abdel-Aziz to MMA Fighting.
They were to have been a part of the semifinals to crown the first middleweight champion. As Mutapcic was about to begin his walk to the cage, a member of the New Jersey Athletic Control Board alleges he saw the fighter swallow a pill. A bottle was discovered with several pills inside, so the commission pulled the fight.
Mutapcic went to the hospital to take a drug test to clear his name and plans on suing the commission.
There has been talk to rebook the fight for later in the year.
WSOF 5 came from Revel Casino in Atlantic City, NJ, on September 14.
