Wanderlei Silva wants the UFC to go all out for his future meeting with Chael Sonnen.
“I want this fight to take place at Maracana,” said Silva. “I want a crowd just like the 1950 World Cup final with 110,000 fans in there if possible. If they don’t sell out the place, I’ll buy all the tickets and hand them to the fans.”
The open-air stadium Silva mentions was built in 1950 and once hosted over 200,000 soccer fans.
Next year, “The Axe Murderer” will coach on The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 3 opposite Sonnen. Before that happens, Sonnen returns at UFC 167 against Rashad Evans and Silva looks to be done fighting until 2014.
UFC president Dana White was interested in Silva’s idea with possibly having Vitor Belfort challenge for the middleweight title in the main event.
