It appears Chael Sonnen’s retirement speech isn’t sitting too well with Wanderlei Silva.
The two were expected to meet in July, but Silva’s decision to not take a drug test caused the Nevada Athletic Commission to pull his fight license. Now, following Sonnen’s failed drug test and subsequent retirement, “The Axe Murderer” is calling out his greatest rival.
“How run? Retired?” Silva posted on Twitter. “After say all this (expletive) about me, we need to make this fight Chael Sonnen.
“After all this is going to retire, impossible we have to settle our accounts!”
In the hours immediately following Sonnen’s impending suspension, Silva called out Vitor Belfort for the fight. The two were actually once paired following a coaching stint on The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil, but Belfort suffered an injury.
Sonnen and Silva had their fair-share of issues, including a minor “brawl” on the set of TUF: Brazil 3 earlier this year. That led to a postponement in the fight, as Silva suffered an injury. They were re-booked for the July 5 card from Las Vegas before both were dropped by the NAC.
