Middleweight contenders Vitor Belfort and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza will not wait around to see what happens with the title, agreeing to square off this May.
Set for May 14 in Brazil, an exact location for the card is yet to be confirmed.
Belfort (25-11) previously held the UFC light heavyweight title and worked his way into the role of No. 1 contender before being defeated by Chris Weidman. During his run to that fight, “The Phenom” handed new UFC champion Luke Rockhold his lone Octagon defeat.
Souza (22-4) lost to Yoel Romero recently, but Romero has come under scrutiny for failing a post-fight drug test. He is a former Strikeforce champion who owns wins over Gegard Mousasi and UFC welterweight titleholder Robbie Lawler.
