Virgil Zwicker was one of the unlucky fighters to be out of a job when Strikeforce closed. The American hasn’t been seen since his May 2012 Strikeforce appearance and points the blame on a doctor’s mistake.
Initially diagnosed with blood clots in the brain by a Strikeforce doctor, Zwicker later learned it was an error. The knowledge didn’t come without financial hardship.
“Strikeforce did not help me and none of the Zuffa people helped me pay for anything, so I had to go spend $15,000-$16,000 on about 20 different doctors and 15 different x-rays to prove to them that their doctor was wrong and there was nothing wrong with my brain,” said Zwicker to MMA Sentinel.
Zwicker went 1-1 for Strikeforce. He made fast work of Brett Albee and took a decision defeat to Guto Inocente in his last fight.
He returns at tomorrow’s Bellator 99 against Nick Moghaddam to open the prelim card in a light heavyweight bout
