Former UFC fighter Vinny Magalhaes was expected to compete in the first tournament to crown a light heavyweight champion in the World Series of Fighting.
While Magalhaes has remained on the sidelines, the tournament was set to continue on with the likes of Thiago Silva, Matt Hamill and Ronny Markes competing.
Hamill was the first to bow out, exiting a planned semifinal round fight with Silva. His replacement, Teddy Holder, defeated Silva and advanced to the finals.
Now, another fighter has been forced out, as Ronny Markes was replaced for Saturday’s card vs. David Branch.
As far as Magalhaes is concerned, this is just the “MMA Gods” doing what they wanted done all along.
“That’s the way that the universe found to tell everyone that I should be WSOF champ,” Magalhaes told FightLine via Twitter. “Got all the other guys that were originally scheduled to fight for the title out of the picture until I could fight for the belt first.”
