Thomas Almeida’s 19th career win will be one for the highlight reel, as he stopped Yves Jabouin on his feet Saturday night at UFC 186.
Almeida (19-0) landed 41 of 71 strikes in the fight that didn’t get out of the first round. Of those strikes, 40 were significant ones.
“The fight was very hard, Yves is a tough guy,” Almeida said. “But I pass (the test) and am very happy.”
After signing with the UFC last year, Almeida scored a decision win over Tim Gorman that earned “Fight of the Night” honors in Brazil. He had previously won the Legacy FC bantamweight title and the MMASH bantamweight belt prior to competing inside the Octagon.
“I trained very hard, and prepared for this fight,” he said. “I am very happy to get the finish.”
Jabouin scored the lone takedown and landed 27 of 76 strikes in the stand-up battle.
Of Almeida’s 19 career wins, 14 have been knockouts and four more have been via submission.
