Renowned MMA fighter and trainer Renzo Gracie has come to the defense of Rousimar Palhares.
Palhares was released by the UFC after his controversial submission win vs. Mike Pierce earlier this month. “Toquinho” appeared to continue applying pressure on Pierce while he had a heel hook locked up.
The decision cost Palhares the “Submission of the Night” bonus and eventually his contract with the promotion.
“We are in a fight business. If we will begin a witch hunt the intensity of our sport will be gone,” Gracie wrote on Twitter. “We are suppose to get hurt… I’m extremely (upset)… That I will end the rest of my days with all my teeth in my mouth. Makes me question if I really fought the great ones.”
The two also shared an exchange, as Palhares posted “thanks for the words master, I have been crucified as a bad character, a person of evil.”
