UFC 193 gave Valerie Letourneau the chance to shock the world.
While the Canadian was unable to dethrone Joanna Jedrzejczyk atop the strawweight world, she still proved her skills, pushing the champion to the distance.
“Nothing really surprised me,” Letourneau said. “She did what I thought she was going to do. I just didn’t respond as good as I wanted.”
For Letourneau (8-4), the loss was her first since a 2012 split decision defeat to top contender Claudia Gadelha. She had bested Maryna Moroz, Jessica Rakoczy and Elizabeth Phillips all via decision since signing with the UFC in 2014.
