Urijah Faber has been in the role of a top-contender for years.
After missing out on claiming a title in the UFC twice so far, “The California Kid” made sure to keep his name in the role of elite fighter by finishing Michael McDonald at UFC on FOX 9 Saturday night.
With Dominick Cruz and Renan Barao set to unify the belts in early 2014, Faber feels he is ready to face the winner.
“We’ve got some great champions right now,” said Faber, during the post-fight show. “I am ready for that opportunity. When I’m not shooting for the stars, I’m gonna be out of this sport.”
Faber, who lost to both Cruz and Barao, said “In my heart, I feel like I beat (Cruz).” As for Barao, he stated, “I didn’t put forth my best effort.”
If he isn’t able to go for the gold, Faber answered Chael Sonnen’s question of taking on a super-fight with an excited answer
“I would love to have super-fights,” he said. “Frankie Edgar would be a main one. I have so much respect for the guy. He truly is a pound-for-pound guy.”
