Urijah Faber Liked TUF 22 More Without “The Dud” Dominick Cruz

Urijah Faber doesn’t let an interview go by without taking a shot at long-time rival Dominick Cruz.

Earlier this week, Faber appeared on “UFC Tonight” to discuss the 22nd season of The Ultimate Fighter, which he is coaching opposite Conor McGregor on. It marks the second appearance for “The California Kid” on the reality series, as he previously coached vs. Dominick Cruz on the first – and only – live season to date.

“It was a lot shorter season, and I had someone with more personality, instead of Dominick ‘the dud’ Cruz,” Faber said. “There was a lot of back and forth banter and they got it all in there. The big difference was we didn’t get to pick our teams. They said here’s your team. I was happy with the team. Our guys were warriors. There were some amazing fights.”

And while Faber added that he “likes Conor,” he did take a jab at his coaching-style.

“We only got half the time with Conor because he was sleeping in until 3 (p.m.) everyday,” Faber said.

Faber also responded to comments made by McGregor concerning Team Alpha Male teammate T.J. Dillashaw.

“Just so you know there’s a whole backstory to that, but you have to tune into TUF to know what we’re talking about,” he said. “But there is a snake that was getting on our nerves. T.J. is my boy.”

Pushed further, Faber admitted that former TAM head coach Duane Ludwig was the “deal” McGregor was referring to. Ludwig left the gym but continues to train Dillashaw and a handful of other fighters from the camp.

“The deal that Conor was talking about was about Ludwig. Dysfunction follows that guy,” he said. “I gave that guy a great opportunity and he seems to ruin it. He’s been kind of a bully and a tyrant for the team. Conor saw a little opportunity to needle and he did.”
