A report started circulating Friday that former WEC champion Urijah Faber had turned down a fight with Thomas Almeida. Almeida would have been replacing Raphael Assuncao, who pulled out with an injury.
Faber took to Twitter to deny the accusation, stating point blank “This isn’t true.”
“The California Kid” and Assuncao were set for action this March, but a slow-recovering ankle injury will keep Assuncao out. Faber (32-7) has won two straight and six of his last seven, losing only to then-UFC bantamweight champion Renan Barao in 2014.
I chose the road less traveled, like my Dude Robert Frost. If the UFC really wanted that fight it would happen. @sherdogdotcom
