The two left standing that will meet this Friday night for the UFC strawweight championship are Carla Esparza and Rose Namajunas.
Esparza and Namajunas will square off in the main event of The Ultimate Fighter 20 Finale from Las Vegas after advancing through the reality series.
Jessica Penne and Randa Markos, both of whom dropped semifinal round bouts, will also compete on the finale against one another. In all, 15 of the 16 contestants will be part of the show.
Esparza (9-2) has defeated the likes of Bec Rawlings and Felice Herrig. She was the No. 1 seed, topping Angela Hill and Penne to advance. The former college wrestling All-American previously held the Invicta FC strawweight title before vacating it to sign with the UFC.
Namajunas (2-1) is just 22 years old, but earned a pair of submission victories to start her pro career last year over Emily Kagan and Kathina Catron. She lost via decision to Tecia Torres, a contestant on TUF 20, last July and trains with boyfriend and former UFC heavyweight, Pat Barry.
Her flying armbar last year was named the “Submission of the Year” by many. And, like admirer Ronda Rousey, “Thug” advanced to the finals with an armbar submission vs. Randa Markos.
Both of Namajunas’ first two pro wins came via submission, as did all three of her bouts on TUF. Those, though, do not count towards her overall pro record.
