UFC Sacramento: Chad Mendes Talks About Duane Ludwig’s Influence

Chad Mendes reached the top of the UFC.

He stepped inside the Octagon with UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo.

Mendes was unable to secure the belt that night, but he feels thanks to the coaching of Duane Ludwig, he’ll eventually get there again. He fights Nik Lentz in December at UFC on FOX 9.

Since Ludwig joined up with Team Alpha Male, the unit has yet to taste defeat.

“For me, Duane’s system is unbelievable,” said Mendes, during a recent press conference. “The way he breaks everything down. It’s something I’ve never seen before.

“In wrestling, you drill, warm up for an hour, then do live stuff. We never did that before Duane was here. His drilling techniques have been the biggest part of helping me with my confidence as far as stand-up goes.”

Mendes, who has finished a number of opponents since his loss to Aldo, added that “it’s awesome to have a head coach-figure that you believe and trust in.”
