The UFC has plans to host a card in New Zealand with 2016 being the latest it could happen. When it does, the Vector Arena in Auckland is being targeted as the venue.
UFC Director of Operations for Australia, New Zealand & Canada Tom Wright revealed the news on MMA Kanvas.
“We know it’s a strong market for us. Auckland would be the first place we go to,” said Wright. “We’re very excited about that opportunity. It wouldn’t be until probably 2015 or 2016, but Auckland is absolutely on our radar.”
He pointed to Mark Hunt, James Te Huna and Dylan Andrews as some of the New Zealand born fighters who work for the UFC.
While Wright has confidence about putting the show on, he admits there’s still work to be done involving the country’s government.
