Dhiego Lima, who was a finalist on The Ultimate Fighter 19, has been released by the promotion. Lima made the announcement via Facebook recently.
“Had an amazing vacation in Brazil with my family heading back to Atlanta. I’m no longer under UFC contract, so I’ll be taking the rest of the year off from fighting (and) focusing just on training and our gym,” Lima posted on Facebook. “I will be back fighting next year starting fresh. Thank you UFC for all the opportunities. I wasn’t able to show anything I do on all my fights in there. I need to take some fights outside, rebuild myself and come back like an animal.”
Lima (10-4) won just once in four Octagon appearances after starting his pro career 9-1. He is the brother of current Bellator welterweight champion Douglas Lima and was coached by Frankie Edgar on TUF.
In the finals of the reality series, Lima lost to Eddie Gordon.
The 26-year-old Brazilian’s lone UFC victory came in 2014 when he scored a decision over Jorge de Oliveira. He lost via first round knockout to Li Jingliang, Tim Means and Gordon.
