The UFC has signed welterweight Augusto Montano, a Mexican prospect from the famed Jackson-Winkeljohn gym in New Mexico.
Montano is 13-1 in his career, with eight knockout and five submission victories to his credit. His lone loss came to Sam Alvey in 2011.
“I feel very happy, also a bit nostalgic, because it has been a bit difficult and now that we have the door open, I’m making count of all the doors we had to open before and what I had to sacrifice,” said Montano, in an interview with FightLand recently. “All the sweat and blood we left on the road, but the best is yet to come.”
The 29-year-old, nicknamed “Dodger,” has scored 11 of his 13 career finishes inside the first round. He is on a four-fight win streak since the loss to Alvey.
