Urijah Faber vs. Michael McDonald
It’s co-main event time, as former WEC champion Urijah Faber takes on Michael McDonald. Faber (29-6) has won three straight since a loss to Renan Barao for the interim UFC bantamweight title. And in his fighting home of Sacramento, “The California Kid” is 3-2 all-time.
McDonald (16-2), also a California-based fighter, is 5-1 since joining the UFC from the WEC. He finished Brad Pickett this past August after a loss to Barao for the belt.
Round 1: Big head kick by Faber, as it’s a glancing blow but allows him to score with a takedown. McDonald working to get into the guard to better defend and possibly secure a submission before the fighters get sweaty. McDonald working the rubber guard, and with the news of Chad Mendes battling the flu, you have to wonder if it hit the entire Team Alpha Male. Faber using his power to improve his position. Huge overhand right by Faber connects and they clinch for a brief moment. Faber with a left hook as we go under a minute. So far, an interesting round to score, as Faber is more effective with his striking, but McDonald did well on his back with submission attempts.

Round 2: And we have a break with an inside leg kick that lands below the belt. Faber catches McDonald with a big right hand and he goes on the offensive. McDonald, though, quickly recovers and lands a counter on a charging Faber. That shot hurt him, but he recovered exceptionally quick. Wild miss by McDonald and Faber is using the front-kick to his advantage. Big head kick and Faber lands on McDonald. He fires off several more shots and McDonald goes flying up against the fence. Instead of mounting, Faber sees an opening and grabs the neck, scoring with another guillotine choke. McDonald fights it but eventually has to tap.
