We conclude the prelims with a welterweight bout between former Ultimate Fighter winner Court McGee and Ryan LaFlare. Originally, McGee was scheduled to meet fellow TUF winner Kelvin Gastelum.

McGee (16-3) has picked up back-to-back decision victories since moving down to 170 pounds. We recently talked with “The Crusher” about his intense training camp.

LaFlare (9-0) is 2-0 since joining the UFC, defeating both Ben Alloway and Santiago Ponzinibbio via decision.

Round 1: McGee is cutting the cage off, coming right after LaFlare. McGee comes in with a combo and LaFlare takes him down. Right back up goes McGee, and LaFlare brings him right back down. Nice right jab by McGee gets through, as does a kick to the body – which is answered. LaFlare gets off a combo of his own and another that includes a punch to the jaw. LaFlare continuing to go to the body with kicks and McGee lands a combination. McGee with a takedown but gets caught along the fence by LaFlare, who hammers him with knees to the body. Right back comes McGee with a left-right combo and a kick of his own to the body. McGee blocks a spinning kick attempt bu can’t quite finish the takedown.

Round 2: McGee, like the first, comes right out and pushes the pace. Nice exchange of kicks to the body and McGee fires off another. LaFlare with a pair of kicks and a left hand that gets through. LaFlare on top, but he wants this on the feet and stands up. This has been a grueling fight through eight minutes, as both men have taken punishment. LaFlare lands with a left to the body and a right hook, just missing on a big knee to the face. Pair of stiff kicks by LaFlare, who has upped the amount of effective strikes in this round, adding in another takedown. He moves to side control as we go under 50 seconds in the round. McGee quickly back to his feet, but he is a bloody mess.

Round 3: McGee showing more movement this round, coming after LaFlare, but he eats a left for his efforts. McGee catches a kick and tries for a takedown, but is unable to secure it. A right by McGee nearly floors LaFlare, who appeared to be hurt by it. Inside leg kick and more pep in the step now for the TUF winner. McGee going for a takedown against the fence and he gets it, looking for a guillotine. LaFlare rolls against the fence and free, tying him up as we head under three minutes. Both fighters still throwing plenty, just not connecting as much as they were in the first and second. McGee bullies LaFlare against the fence and gets the takedown as he avoid a kimura. McGee again pushes him to the fence in hopes of a takedown, but is denied. Back to it with a double-leg this time and he scores. McGee tries for a choke but finishes on top.
