Add another injured fighter to the December UFC on FOX 9 card, as Jamie Varner has been forced out.
Varner joins Kelvin Gastelum and UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis as those who have been removed from the December 14 card from Sacramento. After a 2012 year in which several cards were hit like this, the UFC has survived until the end of the year to be hit hard.
Varner was scheduled to meet Pat Healy on the prelim-portion of the event.
“I guess the word got out so I thought I’d let everyone know last (Wednesday) sparring I tore my rotator cuff and will be out a few weeks!,” Varner posted on Twitter. “Sorry ;(”
Varner, a former WEC lightweight champion, has gone 1-2 in his last three fights. He was defeated by Gleison Tibau this past August after topping Melvin Guillard. Both bouts went to a decision.
No word yet on if Healy will remain set for action on the card.
