Heavyweights will take center stage – or Octagon – this Saturday night at UFC on FOX 13, as former champion Junior dos Santos meets Stipe Miocic.
The card, which airs on FOX and FOX Sports 1 from Phoenix, also boasts the return of former title-contender Nate Diaz to action. Diaz faces Rafael dos Anjos in the co-main event.
Here’s a look at three things to watch for this weekend. And as always, FightLine will have complete coverage of all the action.
Can Stipe Miocic clear that final hurdle to a title shot?
Despite coming off the sidelines after an injury, most believe Junior dos Santos will still find a way to take out rising star Stipe Miocic.
However, Miocic isn’t just some run-of-the-mill fighter, he’s turned himself into a formidable contender with wins over Fabio Maldonado, Gabriel Gonzaga and Roy Nelson since his first – and only to date – loss to Stefan Struve in 2012.
If Miocic gets his hand raised, he vaults right to the top in a division dominated by Cain Velasquez and dos Santos for the past few years.
For dos Santos, a convincing win over the highly-ranked Miocic should position him right back in the thick of things, with Velasquez and Fabricio Werdum to unify the belts in 2015.
