Early on, Romero had some difficulties tracking Machida down and getting past the middleweight’s kicks. In round two, however, Romero started to find his target more often, and put Machida on the defensive with flying knees and punches.
Shortly into the third frame, Romero charged in and took Machida to the mat. Before “The Dragon” could defend or establish guard, he was rendered unconscious by a brutal flurry of elbows.
The stoppage defeat is Machida’s second in 2015, as the former light-heavyweight champ was submitted by Luke Rockhold in April.
Romero, meanwhile, has won six straight fights now since joining the UFC. Rebooking a bout with “Jacare” Souza seems like a pretty good idea right about now.
