Officials announced on Friday plans for a third event during “International Fight Week” this July, as UFC Fight Night 90 will air entirely on Fight Pass.
And there will be a championship match to highlight, as Rafael dos Anjos defends his lightweight belt vs. Eddie Alvarez.
Set for July 7, the card will take place inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The Ultimate Fighter 23 Finale and UFC 200 will also go down that week.
Dos Anjos earned his first title defense in December with a finish of Donald Cerrone. He was set to meet Conor McGregor recently, but a foot injury scrapped the contest. The 31-year-old holds a five-fight win streak that features victories over Cerrone, Nate Diaz, Anthony Pettis, Benson Henderson and Jason High.
Instead, he’ll get former Bellator champion Alvarez, who is coming off back-to-back split decisions over Pettis and ex-Strikeforce champion and title contender Gilbert Melendez. Prior to a loss to Cerrone in his debut, Alvarez had earned three straight wins with Bellator over Michael Chandler, Patricky Freire and Shinya Aoki.
