UFC Fight Night 61 Recap: Frank Mir Stuns Bigfoot Silva, Brazil

Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir got back on track in convincing fashion Sunday night at UFC Fight Night 61, knocking out Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva in just over a minute.

Mir, who had dropped four straight, stunned Silva with a big left hand, finishing him on the ground with sharp elbows.

The main card, which took place from Porto Alegre, Brazil, featured several stunning upsets along with Mir’s win.

Michael Johnson, Adriano Martins, Frankie Saenz and Santiago Ponzinibbio all were awarded decisions, while Sam Alvey knocked out Cezar Ferreira. On the prelims, Marion Reneau, Matt Dwyer, Mike de la Torre, Douglas Silva and Ivan Jorge picked up victories.

Mir, Alvey, Reneau and Dwyer were all given “Performance of the Night” bonuses and an additional $50,000. There was no “Fight of the Night” handed out.
